Blob Airship

Description

My first contest entry for :iconconceptworld: 's 41'st bi-weekly contest challenge with "blob ship" as the theme.

The wind roared causing the waves to crash angrily against each other and it was their, in the middle of nowhere, that a large bronze steampunk ship emerged from the depths of the sea, it hovered above the treacherous waters, before gliding forward eagerly, consuming the air greedily. Yes, this is what it was meant for, to fly, not to stay crouched in hiding for centuries upon centuries in the eternal darkness. The two oddly glowing blobs on the ship seemed to sigh in relief as they breathed in the oxygen, and, the more they breathed, the faster the ship raced, finally free.

Hey Orbes, great backstory behind your concept and I can see that you tried to bring together all the elements from your imagination and I think it works.

I love the effort you've put into this piece. I love the chiseled rocks and you've got a nice colours scheme too. My advice for future work would be to study lighting. James Gurney's Colour and Light is a great book on lighting and I highly recommend you buy that book if you can afford it (Less than $10) or borrow it. Once you understand the principal of lighting you'll be able to integrate different pieces into your work without making them stand out too much.

My biggest recommendation for this piece would be for you to think about the light reflects off water. If you have a bright scene, chances are that light will bounce of surfaces an illuminate every object within its reach. So the area close to water will receive bounce light from the water and in turn it'll be lighter to a degree.

Apart from that I think you're on your way to becoming a better artist. Keep pushing!
